Plym: New Prothero Cutter, 32’LOA Hull 26’x 9’ x 5’
This is a heavily built, fine handling and very attractive small cutter. It was launched in 2007 and spars and rigging were completed in fall 2008. Information on designer-builder Frank Prothero can be found in Wooden Boat Magazine Issue 48, September/October 1982.
- Planking: 1” western red cedar on sawn fir frames 12” O.C., doubled at the bilge
- House: 1 ¼” fir with 1” T & G cedar top covered with ship felt and canvas
- Deck: 1 ¼” x 2” laid fir with Detco deck caulk seams
- Ceiling: 1” full Alaska yellow cedar
- Spars: 6” diameter x 35’ hollow Sitka spruce mast, solid Douglas fir boom and hollow Sitka spruce gaff
- Lumber: All boat-grade Douglas fir, western red cedar, Alaska yellow cedar and mahogany, VG, air-dried and clear
- Fastenings, hardware and fittings : hot-dipped galvanized and bronze
- Traditional rigging: soft eye splices, parceled, served, leathered and slushed.
- Wire: galvanized and stainless
- Engine: 30HP Yanmar diesel 3QM30 freshwatercooled, approximately 800 hours, Norscot shaft seal, 1 1/8” stainless steel shaft, 17” x 17” bronze prop
- Steering wheel: Mahogany with Edson 00 Boston gear on 2” stainless steel rudder stock
- Sails: jib 94 square feet, foresail 64 square feet, main 308 square feet made by Elliot/Pattison sail makers
- New 8’ Nutshell pram tender with oars
- Forward chain locker with 35’ of 5/16” galvanized chain and 130’ ½” braided nylon anchor line. 25# CQR anchor.
- V-berth port and starboard with storage under
- Dinette for two folds to third bunk
- Galley with stainless steel sink and foot water pump
