sounds like a nice boat, what are the slip fees now at pier 39 and will you finance this boat with no money down to a hard working , low income trucker. God Bless you if you do or don’t. I suppose it all depends on how bad you need to sell you yacht. I have no bills other than child support so I can afford payments, let me know what you think . I come to Calif once a month for 3 dys to visit my kids in Fresno, and I deliver to the bay arear whenever I come. You can keep the pink untill I pay you off , or when I have given you say 20% of your rock bottom asking price mayby I can finance the balance . I see a lot of wooden boats not selling these days .

to all who are thinking of baying this vessel.
i have had the opportunity of looking at this boat,and i have to tell anyone who is interested to not waste any time or $$$ on this boat.
there is a hell of a lot of work to be done on it,the all deck is rotten,it leaks just as much inside that the outside there’s nothing that works on this boat,the fridge is finish,the engine is old and it does not work at all,so is the generator,it does need all the electrical to be done,both booms are rotten,there’s not anchor or wheel,all instrument are ancient ,the gunnels needs mayor attention,basically the boat is finish.

Sounds like a great idea, and one I’ve had myself, but as a wooden boat owner I’m aware of all the highly toxic paint and other chemicals that are slathered on wooden boats (and absorbed into the wood). I’m not sure that fiberglass boats are any better in that respect. If I were you, for the safety of your kids, I think I’d build something from scratch (out of untreated lumber) or look for pre-fab playground equipment in the shape of a boat.

I am now lofting the Atkin Eric for a 1968 Eric restoration project (not for sale however). If you are interested in building new, I will have the loft complete in 3 months or so and can loft on mylar strips rather than the planned plywood floor. Hi!
Before that I knew nothing about the boat designer A.M. Deering. But I was interested in your question and I decided to carry out my own little investigation. And that’s what I learned.

In 1957-1958 Mr Deering worked for well-known manufacturer Burger Boat (Manitowoc, WI), and he participated in the design at least of one ship – 70′ motor yacht. And he worked together with Naval Architect Phillip Rhodes.

Interestingly enough, at the same time (1957) Phillip Rhodes worked on one of the largest sailing yacht – 98′ steel ketch Curlew III. And I can assume that this work they also performed together.

Hi there to anyone who can help me with the history of my John Alden designed 50 ft yawl named – BAHIA. Built 1929.
She is built of oregon carvel planks on oak frames with an oregon strip planked deck. I have owned her for 1 year and bought her here in NZ. BAHIA has had 2 previous NZ owners one of which sailed her extensively in the Pacific Islands. There was no history with her when purchased but I believe that she spent time in Portugal and may have been built in New York. There are serial no’s etched into the timbers from outside of New Zealand. Currently she is undergoing maintenance for summer sailing.

unfortunately there was very little interest in my h28 and I have decided to delist her for sale.

The motor has been sold and the boat will be dismanteled this spring . There are some old winches and much magahogny and the mizzen mast .

Ann,

I have redone a boat and would like to sell it or sell half interest. It is a 1999 Ketch by Harasty, and the Beta Marine engine is new in 2007 with 180hrs on it. It was in a hurricane, and I put it in dry dock and redid the bottom. No water got in but it was tossed around. It is awesome!!! Totally ready to sail and in Galveston.

30K but will entertain strong offers. pics on my site.

The boat draft is 3.5 shol keel,
The price is in canadian dollars.

The cradle is wood, bolted together 4×4 with 6×6 for length of keel, wooden wedges are used for adjustment .

Hi Phil

The main mast was taken down on a port tack when the pin attaching the chain plate and the turn buckle came out. Not my finest hr. The mast was sheared off at deck level and just above the spreaders. No damage to the rest of the boat. Saved the mizen mast by running a line to the bow.

The boat comes with a cradle.
Keel is 3000lbs of led and was reconditioned with new lead and new staineless steel replacing old self taping type.
It is powered by a yanmar 1gm 10 at 8 hp
I have owned the VIATOR for about 24 years and as she gets better over time I lose the energy to carry on .
Good sea boat as I crused to the Behamas in 92 for one year.

The mast is behing the garage at the yatch club and is made of BC fur.It can be spliced with some effort or hand made at some expense. I am not up to the task for health reasons.
I am willing to let her go for $7000.00 rather than see her go to scrap for the same money.

I am presently sailing my Angleman Sea Spirit ketch into the Caribbean after a 10 year circumnavigation. I bought the boat in Los Angeles 1999 and I am ready to sell it. It’s very well maintained and fully equipped to continue cruising.
It was buit 1965 by the Tokyo Boat Works, Japan. Mahogany over oak.

Duchess is a steady boat. The Sea Bird Yawl is hard chine so is not rxtremely tippy. She sails well on SF bay in wind to 20+kts. The main has no reef points, if it is too windy she will sail well with jib and mizzen.

This is to Barbara Eckert. I have a alden ketch of 33 foot in length called “Nomad” I bought her about 13 years ago as a project boat and totaly restored her . However I bought her in western australia. I was told that the boat was stolen and was used in the drug trade in asia for a number of years and ended up in a marina in western australia. She was in a bad state of repair and was auktioned off by the local port authorathy , where I bought her in 1996. I am not sure that this is the boat your looking for . if you contact me , I will send you some photo’s

the last i heard of cybele was it got sold to the australian couple that had no idea of how to properly restore her, launched once, started to sink, relaunched successfully and made it as far as la paz.
they fell of the map from that point. their plan was to make it to Australia. searched thru Oz resources and can’t find any sign of them or their boat. Email address died shortly after leaving mexico. good luck. in its day, Cybele was one of the best aldens out there.

Have a 33′ William Hand design Ketch built in 1960. It does need work. It is made of Teak and Mahogany with a rebuilt engine. I took possession of it a few years back after performing work for the owner who defaulted on payment and storage fees. I am asking $5,000.00 for it and would gladly provide photos and documentation for you if you have any interest.

I have a 30 foot wooden classic that was designed by William Rhue (of Bluenose fame) and built in Nova Scotia in 1957. I purchased it about three years ago from a long time owner in Salem Mass. and brought it to Georgia, where I’ve been restoring it, with the help of a master shipwright. It is nearing completion, but I’ve purchased a second boat in the meantime and have been thinking of selling the Rhue. It is a beautiful and solid yacht, but not a showboat. It does, however, have all its original bronze fittings and a full complement of sails and gear. It is documented with the National Registry
About all that is left to do is bottom paint, rerigging the mast and servicing the Yanmar diesel. I have about $15,000 in it now and would be happy to discuss it with you if you are interested. Please let me know.

I am also looking to find out what happend to my fathers 48′ John Alden Ketch. I believe it was a malabar (SP?). We sold it down in Mexico in approx 2001 after he passed away from Cancer. Beautiful boat with rich history, let it go for $12k…what a shame

Ann, have a look on http://www.boatbrokers.com.au, sail, monohulls, over 35′. I have a beautiful timber triple diagonal, full keel yacht. She is listed as Classic Colin Archer Cruising Yacht. She is not actually Colin Archer design, but similar. She is NZ designed & built. I have just come back from Pacific cruise & she has evereything. Think of the adventure of coming to Tasmania to sail her home!

Am trying to learn of the existance of a 50 ft Alden designed gaff-riged, clipper bowed, top-sail schooner, originally rigged with a yard on the foremast, named Story II, built in the mid 1930s. My father, William L. Taylor, owned it for a short while on the east coast (NYC/Cape Cod), roughly from 1939 -1942? Last I’ve heard it was owned by a furniture company (?) in California.

Would be delighted to hear any news of this marvelous boat!

Dear Sir,
I am extremely interested in your dory. I live in the Los Angeles area and have recently been forced out of work into disability by the L.A.U.S.D. I am 57 years olde and have been looking at building a Chamberlain Gunning Dory modified by John Gardner and was comparing that to Oughtred’s designed John Dory when I came across this link.
I have a small homebuilt trailer that I believe will handle the job of transporting the materials, and obviously, lots of unplanned time on my hands to complete the project you find yourself unable to complete at this time in your life. My sympathies go out to you to have had to give up this endeavor…. I hope that if you have not already gotten rid of your boat that you might consider me as the next builder to bring her to completion.

I just brought home a 1973 Caver that had been abandened by its owner at a marine down on the delta. I would like to restore it for a family boat, but I’m having trouble getting info on it. I thought sense you’ve done such a wonderful job on yours that perhaps you could suggest a web site or company where I could get a book. The stern drive is missing and I’m trying to find out just what it had. I think it was a volvlo 280 but I’m no expert.

Ah Yes
This must be “sistership” I would presume to the other John Alden ketch that also survived the the ‘Fastnet’ storm of 1979 and was sold or at least offered for……. $7800 in March ‘08. Isn’t it just amazing how boats appreciate in value so much in such short periods of time.

The survey value of this boat at $25,000 is an insult to the “storybook” value of this magnificent vessel and should have been listed at least another $100000 for a total “replaced value” of $500000. Legend has it that those who even look at detail photos “Sea Era” develop a talent for long winded drivel; ah… but that is a story for another time …

The mini yacht Talofa found a good home. A young couple have a dream and had the cash.
I have sold the boat. They remind me of Lin and Larry Pardey.
He is a cabinet maker and they will be going to school. They even lucked out and have a livaboard slip. I wish them luck and happy sailing in the future.

I need help.Yesterday I boutht a cedar strip sail boat on a trailer at a garage sale for $250.The seller did not know the name of the boat or the builder.It has an excellent hull and just needs some fixing up in a few areas. The problem I have is there was no rudder or tiller.I can build one if I just knew how it should look.There are attach points on the stern for it.The sail has markings on the main,one sail is an ‘O and the other is hard to identify. The hull is just over 14′ long.There are 5 sails,2 mains and some smaller ones,plus a chute. I can send some pictures for an identification.Thanks for your help. Len Walters,SW wa. St.
