2010-11 Youth Apprentice Program
Sausalito’s Spaulding Wooden Boat Center is excited to offer high school students an apprenticeship in boatbuilding, sailing and marine ecology.
- Transform a pile of lumber into a wooden sailboat working alongside professional boat builders in Marin’s oldest wooden boatyard.
- Learn sailing and navigation at the helm of traditional wooden boats, modern Catalina 16.5s and ultimately at the tiller of your own creation.
- Take part in service projects that will bring you face to face with marine wildlife and the dynamic natural forces of the coastal environment.
Apprentices who stay in the program year over year will become skilled builders, confident sailors and knowledgeable environmental stewards. Advanced apprentices will play important teaching and peer mentoring roles and may have the opportunity to earn a stipend for their contribution.
