Fall Youth Tool Skills After School Program

The Spaulding Marine Center’s goal is to help young people connect to the world with their hands and their senses. We aim to get noses out of iPhones, and promote hands-on, practical skills in a screen-free environment. Students learn shop safety, tool skills, measurement, design, construction, and finishing.

The coursework varies based on interests and experience. Current projects include stand-up paddleboards and a strip-planked canoe. New students may get up to speed by building a toolbox, wooden mallet, skateboard, or paddle, and expand into whatever project grabs their interest.

No prior experience necessary. Tools and materials are provided. (For larger projects, students must supply the materials.)

The Instructor: Bryce LeFort is a master boatbuilder, boatyard guru, and a graduate of the International Yacht Restoration School in Rhode Island. Bryce’s classes fill up fast!
