General Responsibilities:
• Compile lists of potential donors, volunteers, and other supporters

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Enter names and other data into database.

Skills Needed:
• Attention to detail
• Strong typist
• Good computer skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Polaris Painting and Varnishing

Job Description: Varnish and paint Polaris spars and topsides
Title: Crew Leaders (2) and Crew (15)
Reports to: Crew Leaders and Spaulding staff
Time Frame: February 11th to March 12th, 2008 (she must be ready to sail by March 15th)

Polaris, our famous 1906 gaff-sloop, is a beautiful living example of the boats that sailed the Bay in the early 1900’s. We are thrilled to have her as the flagship of our sailing fleet. Polaris is part of our Public Sailing Program, which will focus this year on young people and the elderly.

Positions:
Volunteer Crew Leaders (2)
• Strong Experience in brightwork and painting required
• Will work hands on and supervise the work of other volunteers
• Leaders will be the liaison between volunteer crew and Spaulding Management
• Flexible schedule
• Total commitment to start and finish the project
Volunteer crew (up to 15)
• Experienced preferred in brightwork and painting (sanding, varnishing, cleaning)
• The volunteer crew will work under the supervision of the crew leader
• Reliable
• Flexible schedule

Work to be Accomplished:
Brightwork
• Mask with blue tape all surrounding areas
• Deep sanding of mast, boom and bowsprit
• Apply 10 coats of varnish
• Sand between coats
• Apply white enamel to the mast and boom ends
Top Sides
• Mask with blue tape all surrounding areas
• Sand with electric sander
• Spackle as needed
• 2 coats of primer
• 2 coats of white enamel

All materials will be provided. A free membership and a hat from the Spaulding Wooden Boat Center will be offered to all volunteers at the end of the job.
