As a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Spaulding Marine Center’s mission is to…

Preserve the Spaulding Boatworks as a working and living museum

We welcome and encourage visitors to experience a piece of Bay Area history by visiting the boatyard - one of the only working boatyards that allows visitors during operation. Learn about our maritime history through our collections and preservations of tools, photographs, books, and boats!

Spaulding Marine Center utilizes the boatyard as an educational facility for training our Boatworks 101 apprentices, promoting the entry of young people into the maritime industry.

Educate the next generation of shipwrights and marine service technicians

Restore and return to active use historically significant vessels such as our flagship Freda

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, Freda can be seen out and about the bay on weekends, or supporting our summer campers as they learn about maritime history.

To share with the community maritime history and culture through classes and public programming.

We create community by teaching sailing alongside craftmanship and tradition. Our programs are unique not only in the experience they provide, but in the skills that our participants gain.
