Adult edUcation
Spaulding Marine Center offers hands-on adult education classes focused on real skills and practical knowledge. Our courses are open to everyone, from experienced boaters to people who are simply curious about how boats are built, maintained, and used.
Classes are taught by working professionals who bring deep experience and a clear, approachable teaching style. Most sessions take place in our boatyard or shop, where learning happens by doing, asking questions, and working with real tools and materials.
What we teach
Our class offerings change throughout the year and often include:
Rigging and deck systems
Marine electrical and onboard systems
Marine corrosion and maintenance
Woodworking and finishing
Traditional and modern boatbuilding
Maritime history and craft
You do not need to own a boat to take a class here. Many students come to learn a specific skill, others come to try something new or spend time working with their hands by the water.
Why learn here
Spaulding is a working waterfront with a long history of teaching and craftsmanship. Our classes are small, practical, and grounded in real world experience. Whether you are maintaining your own boat or just want to understand how things work, you will leave with skills you can use and a better sense of the maritime world.
