The Power of Storytelling...

Matt Zarem, January 15, 2024

Friends of Spaulding,

I hope that you’re enjoying the new year so far. Spaulding Marine Center is busier than ever, as we continue to invigorate all of our programs across the board. Every day we're fulfilling new experiences in our beloved shop and little boatyard. And this year, we’re committed to fostering even more.

As I write this, the Center is bustling with activity. Our techs and apprentices in the yard are dutifully serving our clients. Our dinghy boat-building course is underway in the shop, right outside my door. A group of kids are upstairs, collaborating on their own build as part of our Homeschool Program. And earlier today, our apprentices wrapped up a course on machining, while I met with a group of volunteers hard at work on an exciting program for our newly redesigned library—which we’ll “officially” announce after a few more coats of varnish go onto the sign!

I sincerely believe that the experiences of our friends, customers, partners, and volunteers are Spaulding Marine Center’s most powerful asset and represent our greatest impact on our community and beyond. With that in mind, we’d like to start sharing some of their stories to remind you of both our ongoing work toward driving our mission and the importance of fueling our programs for continued success.

This year, we're kicking off a fundraising campaign centered on storytelling.  Each month, we’ll share a narrative from the perspective of a friend, customer, partner, or volunteer that speaks to how their Spaulding experience inspired, educated, guided, or enlightened them. And whether you take a course, attend an event, bring in your boat, or volunteer your time, we hope that, by engaging with us, you’ll also have a story to tell.

All of us at Spaulding Marine Center hope you enjoy these stories.  And please seriously consider participating in our mission-critical campaign to support our Annual Fund which fuels the flywheel of our programming efforts.

If you have any questions about the various ways you can support, don't hesitate to contact me directly at matt@spauldingcenter.org

Thank you,

Matt Zarem
