A GLIMPSE INTO OUR Yard Manager

By Joele Maddy 2026

My life has become deeply bound to the water, to simple living, and to the quiet beauty of waterfront communities. I am raising my seven-year-old daughter, Norah, on a boat in Sausalito. Together, we have grown into what I lovingly call “two water babies” — drawn to the sea, the tide, and the peaceful rhythm of life lived close to shore.

There is something profoundly grounding about a life connected to the water. It teaches presence, resilience, humility, and wonder. That spirit has shaped not only the way I live but also the way I work and dream about the future.

Today, I work at Spaulding Marine Center in Sausalito, where I serve as Yard Manager. In many ways, that role feels like a natural extension of the life I’ve built. It keeps me closely connected to the daily rhythm of the waterfront — coordinating projects, caring for vessels, and contributing to a place where craftsmanship, history, and community still matter. Spaulding is more than just a workplace to me. It is part of the living fabric of the harbor. And being there has deepened my connection to the maritime world in a meaningful and lasting way.

Before finding my path in the marine industry, I spent years working in hospitality across Italy, Canada, and the United States. Those experiences taught me how to connect with people from all walks of life, to move through challenges with calmness and grace, and to appreciate the beauty of thoughtful service. Over time, my love for the sea has led me toward a more hands-on life in the maritime world, where I found work that feels aligned with who I am.

At heart, I’m someone drawn to meaningful places, honest work, and a slower, more intentional way of living. I believe that there is wisdom in coastal life — in places where people still gather by the docks, where mornings begin with salt air, and where children can grow up with a sense of freedom, imagination, and closeness to nature.

For me, this life is not just about boats or the sea. It is about building a life centered on presence, connection, and purpose — and sharing that with my daughter as she grows.

This is a personal invitation to bring your boat to the Spaulding yard. It is truly a special place and we promise to give you and your boat the care and attention it deserves!
